Regarding cast bullets, I would be interested to hear others' experience using them in an M1 Carbine. I would have thought that there would be a potential risk of greater fouling of the gas port and piston from lead and/or lubricant residues (vs. jacketed bullets). And that gas piston is a PITA to clean!

Lyman is your best bet for cast bullet loads.

My results so far
As it turns out, I have recently started to develop loads using the Hornady XTP 90 grain using W296. The short version [so far]:
Bullet 90 grain XTP
Powder Winchester 296
Primer Remington 6 ½ [Small Rifle]
Load 15.0 grains
OAL 1.565 inches
Rifle M1 Carbine [Winchester Manufacture]
Notes:
Fair feeding reliability with some small deformation of the bullet at the mouth of the hollow point.
Three shot group size of 1.1 inches at 50 yards using stock sights.
Energetic case ejection
No indication of over pressure based on fired case appearance.
The over all length was set to provide a 0.015 clearance to the lands due to the secant ogive of this bullet. This provided sufficient clearance in two Universal carbines of friends. Unfortunately, this load did not feed reliably in either of these rifles with the edge of the HP becoming jammed against the edge of the chamber
I have not had the time to chrono these rounds, and I am considering changing to a 85 or 86 grain soft point bullet used for 7.62x25 applications to get better feeding.

Speaking of cast bullets in your 30 carbine. The Lyman cast bullet manual has three different bullet weights. the113gr, the 120 grain, and the 130 grain. Powders listed are Unique, SR-4756, AL-8, 2400, and IMR4227. If you don't have a copy, holler and I will let you know the recommended loads.
