I just picked up my 30 carbine dies and getting ready to get some powder. From what I've read and talked with people the Hodgdon H-110 powder is the way to go, with a starting load of 13.0 gr upto 15.0 gr as a maximum. But where I've run into some discrepancies, is what primer to use. Some sources, like the Sierra #13, say small rifle magnum primer and some sources, like Hodgdon's website, say small rifle primer.

Is a magnum primer required for use with H-110? Or can I use the standard rifle primer? FYI, I plan on using 110 FMJ bullets.

thanks
Rob

Fwiw,

I used Small Rifle primers when I reloaded .30 Carbine. Everything went "Bang!" just fine. ;)

Hope you bought CARBIDE dies!

Hey Tory,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I did buy the RCBS carbide dies. I will start off with using the normal rifle primers, and see how it goes and work up from there.

Please don't say "Bang"...I had an unfortunate incident with my AR-15 over the weekend. It went "Bang", but in a very BAD way, and most of it is now a very expensive paper weight. :( :( :( But that's a whole 'nother post....

I use Win296 (same as H110 more or less) and a small rifle primer. My standard load is 15 grs. of Win296.
