Hello, I have been considering a .30 carbine III AMT Automag pistol after reading so much about the Ruger single actions. I have been interested in the line ever since I first saw their Automag II, but can not find anything about the line or accuracy in this caliber. Being all stainless I would guess that they are very durable? I have also seen their little Back-Ups in various calibers does anybody have any experince with them as it might be a second purchase.
-Thanks

The .30 Carbine round has never been popular in handguns due to the extraordinary muzzle blast.

The sound is said to be a certified method of blowing the ear wax out of your ears.

Seriously, the blast really is over the top.

The Automag III was never very popular so I really have no good feel for the quality.
I "seem" to remember hearing something about wear problems with the Automag III.

Most of AMT's guns were serviceable, decent quality guns.

From a handgun, the 7.62x25mm Tokarev gives virtually identicle performance to the .30 Carbine. Lee lists loads for the Tokarev that will push nearly 700 ft/lbs. CZ-52's can be had for <$150. Just a thought;)

I bought a used AMT Automag III because I already owned a couple carbines and a 30 carbine Blackhawk. Good fit. May get a Taurus Raging Thirty, and/or a T/C Contender for good measure. Mine has ok accuracy at 25 yards, maybe 4 inch groups with Winchester ammo.

Downside is AMT is out of business, and spare parts are hard to get. The only source I knew of is out of business.

Yes, major attention-getting device at the range. ;) Got me into reloading, although now I just shoot factory ammo (Winchester white box or S&B) for the fun of it.

If this would be the only 30 carbine gun in the house, then the CZ52 might be a better choice. Cheap enough to buy spare guns just for parts.

Thanks I'll take a look at the CZ's, FWIW I read over on Gunblast that at the
'05 Shot Show Crusader Corp. is possibly to revive the AMT line.

We load the .30 carb with 60g up to 125g for use in the revolver and AMT. It is capable of very impressive ballistics, that being said it offers nothing over other more available rounds for a pistol. If you have one, or if you have an M1 it makes sense for ammunition buying (i.e. less calibers around). It's also pure fun and a sure attention grabber.

The 7.62x25 is actually capable of better ballistics the way we load them, although the result of muzzle blast is the same.
