I am helping a friend find out the worth of an old 30 rimfire rifle. It has an octagonol barrel. And we think it is a falling block. Markings on the gun are ELG in an ovaL and a crown over a v. No other markings on this gun. I have provided pics of this gun. Other gun sites told me to check here. Thanks Sheila

Flobert, a Warnant breech action. Common, low value, almost always broken. Ammo occasionally available for a steep price. A Belgian-made hardware-store single-shot gun for varmints in the garden. Probably worth under $150.

I have never seen or heard of one of these. They might be "common" if you are as old as that Gun is, But "Antiques" sometimes have a way of underestimating the values of antiques.

I would look for a second opinion. Is there a date of manufacture on the gun, serial # that could be cross-referenced?

On Gunbroker.com, there is only one 30 rimfire listed, it's for sale for $590.00

True, but it's a Marlin pistol, which makes a heck of a difference. Floberts were cheap & weak. It's just as well that ammo is hard to find because they're to flimsy to shoot safely. $200 would be a stretch.

Vaarok is pretty much right on here, I just restored the very same rifle in sleeved .22LR. They are not worth all that much, but they are pretty cool little guns

Yes, it was a pistol, but my point being if they were "common", You would expect to see more of them for sale on the junk market. I'm guessing this rifle is at least 100 years old, more likely 110 -120.

.30 cal rim fire has been out of production since 1917, and it is purely a collectors item. It may be possible to find a few rounds for display with an old revolver or rifle, but none of the ammo is likely to be in condition to shoot, and sells for several dollars per cartridge.

Vaarok is Right, and price is right on too. Here's a rifle that recently sold for $170.00, and appears to be in better condition:

Here's another that sold for $151.00:

Sorry not a 30 rimfire but a 32 rimfire

I am sorry but the gun is a 32 rimfire and it does look alot like the one on the other web site. Here are more pics of it. We were told it is from the early 1800's. Thank you. Sheila

It is certainly not from the early 1800s as brass rimfire cartridge guns weren't invented until right at the middle of that century, and the .32 rimfire wasn't developed until nearer to 1900. Some were made in the early 1900s, though. Ammo was made in the US up until the 1940s I think.
