finally making some progress on this project. it's been 15+ month wait from hell since the form 4 was sent off. just got the gun today. it's still not finished. still needs a rail and scope. it's lefthanded, of course. a rem700 doner action in an XLR chassis in desperate need of cleaning. pretty cool titanium monocore baffle. sure hope it's accurate after all this time...

this is the scope i'm putting on it. it's been sitting around since november waiting on the stamp to clear, so i will finally get to review that thing and see if it was a totally stupid waste of money or coolest thing ever.

That's pretty darn cool lookin! What do you plan to use it for? I mean, not that you need a use, I have a safe full of rifles that don't have any "uses".

Dang good question zgunner. It's no good for any competition I know of. Projectiles cost too much for it to be a quiet plinker. Might be great for hog hunting at night except thats not legal in my state
It's mostly just a exploration project for fun that has been not much fun.

But it does look good! I'll post more pics in a few days.

So far I've got $300 in the barrel (an ai covert barrel cut down to 10") and $600 in the can. The stock goes for $750 but I got it free off a prize table (thanks xlr!) and I forget what I paid for the rem700 that I parted out. Plus $200 for stamp. So close to $2500. Plus $800 for the elcan scope. Dang I kind of wish I hadn't added that up.

Looks AWESOME!

Hopefully its a good shooter, I would think that with good loads it should do alright. I look forward to a review of the scope as well.

couple more pics of the titanium baffles and end cap

after further testing yesterday it has an annoying 1st round pop which is well mitigated with a small amount of gel. after that it is impressively quiet.

still have a lot of work to go, though several problems got sorted out over the weekend. for example, the bedding is still jacked up so the action sits high and doesn't feed from mag properly unless you push the mag up with your hand. and that big lump of aluminum on the xlr chassis is preventing me from mounting the scope. the scope rail is so long that if it is mounted far enough back to clear the hump, i can't open the bolt. i will probably wind up using a different optic. who knows though.

made a custom tactical gel applicator to get rid of that first round pop.
syringe from wally world
1/4" OD tube from lowes, cut to length so the end is right at the blast baffle
and taped a toothpick to the end to keep it straight so it's easier to push through the baffles.
thinking about using a cut off carbon fiber arrow instead. we'll see how it works

took a couple more pics of the gun today. wound up not using the elcan. just never got around to messing with it. i'll probably put it up for sale soon. The bushnell HDMR 3-21x is doing just fine

It's not a question of what can you use it for but an answer to the question of what to do with .223 brass with a split neck.
