I'm a pretty new reloader.

I ordered 1,000 of Midway's 200gr .308 factory seconds. I am pretty sure they are Hornady ELD-X. I have 4 books with load data and nothing has a 200gr bullet listed. I find the 190gr, 208gr, 210, etc.

I have CFE BLK, Accurate 1680, and some other options for powder but I cannot find anything for 200-grain projectiles. I do want to load these as subs.

Is it safe to start with the recipe for 208gr? I have loaded Hornady 220gr ELD-x with CFE BLK. I loaded 10.6, 10.8, and 11.0. They all cycled fine and they were all subsonic.

I'm going to be shooting with a suppressor and an 8" barrel. I have the latest versions of the Hornady book, Lyman Book, Lee book and the Complete loading manual for .300 blackout. (along with Hodgdon's website and Accurate's website)

I Use 208 data when i load my Berry’s 200gr TMJ bullets.

you will be hard press to fit enough powder in the case to blow the gun up. I use CFE black for sure and i think lil Gun as well.

I have been using IMR 4227 under Barry's 220gr Spire points with good luck. Funny thing I could not get it to work with 220gr Maker Rex. Did not cycle the gun well. I found 4227 much quieter than the other powders I tried.

I am looking to do the same thing. Did you ever find 200 gr. load data? What load did you end up that worked the best?

When working for subs conventional methods could be improved. Start in the middle if the load data and work down. It's not a pressure problem it's a stuck bullet issue along with functional issues.

I also ran into this, I used the hornady online 208gr data and backed off 1 grain and worked up. It only listed 1 load for the powder I was using. It turns out that their max 9.2 grs of win296 was a bit short, so upped the load but haven't gotten to the range yet to check.

I'm partial to 9.8 grains of N120 under a Lehigh 208 grain Controlled Fracturing pill because it cycles both of my 300 BLK platforms like butter and is super clean. My other favorite in the Lehigh 194 grain Max Expansion (I hope I don’t have those backwards but it's late and I am too tired and lazy to walk out to my man cave and double-check which projectile is what) ... but the beauty of 300 BLK is there are so many powder options. I love 1680 and H110 too ... and CFE Black.

The key to 300 BLK is to work-up a load for your particular platform that meets all of your needs (especially if suppressed) while still cycling reliably.

Cycling reliably and keeping it subsonic is the key to it all if you're going to run your loads through a can. 50 meter accuracy is really all you can hope for although you should be able to work-up a 100 meter pie plate accurate load even at subsonic velocities that cycle reliably.

And remember ... invest in a couple of 300 BLK mags. Don't try to count-on 5.56 mags working reliably with 300 BLK ... especially the heavier projectiles.

This hasn't been my experience at all.

I get about 4 inches at 200 yards with my 235 grain cast bullet loads.

Well .... yeah, I get that and you're right but I didn't want to raise expectations too much for the OP since he is kinda new to this and he didn't state his platform preference, length of pipe, etc.

I too do well with my 16 inch suppressed carbine at 200 meters using my own reloads, even my own cast boolits ... but there is no way I am getting 4" groups at 200 meters using my 5.5" SIG MCX Virtus unless everything falls perfectly into place on some rare given day on my range ... especially with that heavy (235 grns) of a projectile. I would be lobbing them in ... I mean why would I want-to at 200 meters?

The OP didn't state any specifics about his platform but he did state that he was fairly new to reloading so I was trying to stay with reasonable parameters where his expectations are concerned ... hoping he'll stay with it and not get too frustrated if he doesn't immediately achieve results that some of us might be getting after years of trial and error.

ETA: Sorry, had to come back and edit to add ... are you really? 4" groups at 200 yards shooting subsonic 235 grain cast boolits ... I am assuming powder coated? You didn't say. Gas checked? Out of what kind of barrel? Which mold are you using ... which boolit design? What's your recipe? I would be grateful if you would share some of that please. Thank you in advance.

When in doubt .....

https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/reloading-data-center

Click the link.

Scroll down, select Rifle Data > 300 BLK > then choose bullet weights and select all powders ... then hit update data..

Wait a second for it to populate and I just pulled 17 loads for 300 BLK using 200 grain projectiles and various Hodgdon propellants.

As noted above, be advised, data is likely worked-up using a 16" carbine length barrel yet Hodgdon offers no pistol data for 300 BLK that I have found.

It is fairly easy to begin a half a grain low with pistol length barrels and work from there ... IF you have a chrony.
