I'm slowly accumulating parts for a .300 BLK pistol and am stuck at the barrel selection stage. The ultimate plan is to primarily run sub-sonics (with the end goal of casting my own) through a can, while also employing supers (with a can) for hunting from time to time. I'm not concerned with MOA accuracy.

I really don't want to spend a lot (less than $200) on a 10" barrel, and was hoping the fine folk on the forum could chime in and give me some advice.

I've seen them as low as $89, but the unknown make and distributor have me concerned.

A CMMG in 8" or 12.5" seems to run around $140, but are either a little too long, or a little too short... would I lose much by going with an 8" over a 10"?

Wilson Combat makes an 11" for $257, but that's a bit higher than I wanted to pay.

And, of course, there is always AAC's 9" offering for $425, but that's WAY over my planned budget.

Anyways, thanks for the help in advance.

If you are shooting subs the 8 inch is fine, but make sure to check out what barrel length the suppressor likes if you're going that route.

Super sonics will get a performance hit by the short barrel, but it will still get the job done. Be aware that the 8 or 10 inch barrel will be noticeably louder, even through a suppressor with subs as opposed to a 16 inch. Just don't want you to be surprised lol.

Not sure I would be comfortable with the unknown barrels... at least unless someone can chime in with some experience with them. That CMMG 8 or 12 would work fine, but personally I think I would lean to the 12. Plenty short for anything I do with it. Gives a little more oomph on the supers, quiets it down a little more, helps keep extra muzzle pressure and powder out of the suppressor too.

Handloading will help a lot with any barrel length to mitigate jams, noise, velocity issues, pressure etc.

I built uppers in 300 with CMMG barrels in 8" and 12.5" . I like the 12.5" barrel better because the carbine balances and points better, the noise may be louder but is not excessive using supersonic hand loads. Both barrels can chase a can at 100 yds and since they are used for plinking that is accurate enough. At 25 they print nice groups. I also built a 12.5" 5.56 barreled upper and interchange all three with the lower.
