What should I use to expand the .300 Blk case mouth for cast bullets? Can I use a Lee ball de capper expander in a Lee resizing die?

Is the Lee universal expander another complete die, or does it just fit into the standard resize die?

I use a 357 maximum/magnum (not the 38spl/357 magnum) powder through die body and a 30 carbine powder through expander plug to throw charges and expand for cast in one step. If I were loading single stage and weighing every powder charge, I would use a lyman M die or similar NOE substitute but this combination works best on my lee turret press for fast easy loading in minimal steps.

When loading cast boolits in my .300AAC, I use the "floating" expander part from a .30 Carbine die set installed in the expanding die body from .38 spec/.357 mag. This combination works perfectly. I realize not everyone has these die sets sitting on their bench, but many of us do.

Best option: Lee expander with the NOE stepped expander installed.
2nd best option: Lyman M die (the short one)
3rd best option: Lee expander

The only reason the NOE + Lee is the best option is that you get the versatility of the Lee die with the precise neck dimensioning of the Lyman.

I like the lyman M die myself. Haven't used it in 300 blk, but I will. It is awesome in 308, 357, 44, 4570 etc. It bells the mouth and little AND expands the neck to proper cast size. No lead shaving and good neck tension. Much improved over anything else I have tried.

Got much more consistent loads fwiw.
