I know its not THE round for boar hunting, but I was wondering if any had used it on boar.

And if so do you still like it,or would you say 'never again'?.

I have many options, and will be bringing a "few" calibers.

But was curious if anyone had experience with it .

And if so,what bullet weight,I have 110,115,125,150,220.

Thanks for any help.

I love my .300blk. I'm not an AR guy, until the Brady bunch tries to keep me from having one...then I needed one. Then I needed to hunt with it and I'm a big fan of .30 caliber. The Barnes black tip dropped the biggest hog I'd ever killed in its tracks.

I've shot pigs with .30-06 that I wouldn't had found if I hadn't tripped on it (no blood trail) and I've shot a pig with a .350 rem mag where I recovered the bullet under the far shoulder.

My father in law likes .223-and as long as he makes a perfect shot, he seems to do just fine.

Bottom line, .300 blk will do the trick. In fact, it's my new favorite round-reloading for it is fun.

As to your comment about a well placed head SHOT. Standing still, sounds reasonable but if it`s in full 'gallop' I`d say your chance are slim and none. Plus the chance of just wounding are far more likely. if one doesn`t care about a clean kill but more of a slow them down shot, that`s a different story. Not trying to be argumentative just offering a different take.

No matter the caliber or cartridge, shot placement and confidence in that cartridge are crucial. Your father has confidence in his .223 and as you stated hasn't had any problems. Knowing the round is capable, even in the 110-125 gr loads(head/neck shots with those choices), do you have the same level of confidence in your abilities as your father?
