Shooting a shotgun does not require squeezing shots off carefully so as not to disturb the point of aim. In short, it is not precision shooting like that of a rifle. Consequently, we tend to slap the trigger and roll with the recoil, since we are either standing up or sitting (like in a duck blind).

Conversely, with a rifle, we are squeezing off shots carefully so as not to move the rifle even the slightest when the gun goes off. Also, we shoot a lot from the bench, hunched over more than shooting from a duck blind, and therefore absorb recoil without being able to roll with it as much as we can with our shotguns.

I don't think you can compare the two. I know lots of guys who shoot heavy shotgun loads from hard kicking shotguns who, in turn, cannot accurately shoot heavy kicking rifles.

I am not trying to discourage you from buying a 300 Wby. I recommend finding someone who has one and will let you try it before you sink the money into a gun you eventually cannot stand.
