I posted on THR a few days ago that i was going to buy a Remington 300 Ultra Magnumwell thats changed now & i will just have settle for a new Weatherby Series 2 Vanguard in 300 WBY Magnum I just can't pay that much more for the Remington the Weatherby is $540.00 & i will still be very happy with the Weatherby i have had the first Vanguard in 300 WBY & i used it & killed several Whitetails also . I have already ordered me a new set of LEE dies I found 20 Remington brass in the loading shop & i am gonna try to find some once-fired brass from one of the brass sites:cool:

I think you not only saved a lot of money, but got a better rifle and chambering. You didn't "settle", you got an upgrade.

Sounds very nice. Would be fun to sight in at about 500 yards with one of those...

It will cost you more to feed the Weatherby chambering.

He said he is reloading, plus Ultra Magnums are just as expensive as Weatherby Magnums...although they are also more powerful. Neither of them is something I would buy just for hunting white tailed deer.

Personally, the .300 WBY would have been my first choice to begin with. Hope you like it.

Really? I have not done any sort of extensive comparision of the two cartriges, but the brief look I did give them showed the WBY edging out the RUM by a small margin in most factory loadings. Not sure how they compare with maxiumum handloads, thought.

Its really hard to better the work that Roy Weatherby did all those years ago. There are certainly some newer cartriges that offer some small advantages over the old Weatherby Magnums, but even after 70+ years, there are not many in any caliber that can beat them in terms of pure power (MV and ME)

Hogdon's loading data shows more case capacity and up to 200 FPS advantage to the RUM and sometimes a slight advantage to the Weatherby depending on bullet weight and powder

Comparing published specs on Midway
Federal 180gr. Trophy bonded
Wthby 3040 fps
RUM 3200 FPS

Cor Bon 180gr. Barnes TSX
WTHBY 3200 fps
RUM 3300 FPS

Nosler 180gr Accubond
WTHBY 3175 fps
RUM 3250 fps

Nosler 180gr Partition
WTHBY 3175 FPS
RUM 3200 FPS

Some of them show the Wthby faster by about 50 FPS, I guess if anything they are more equal, but I would say the Weatherby certainly isn't more powerful overall than the RUM
