I am preparing for an African safari in May and want to get the best load for plains animals.
Gun: Savage Classic 114 ; .300 Win Mag: Nikon 4.5-16-42 BDC reticle.
I have used H4350 at 66 grains with Nosler partition 180 Grains. It shows around 2850 fps average.
Also Hydrid 100V at 68.2 grains (same bullet).

I want to stick with the 180 Nosler and would appreciate any suggestions on other loads for the best combination at 200 +/- yards.
A power that can be used in 30-06 and .243 would be good.

BTW: Great Site and inputs ! ! :)

It lists Alliant RL22 as most accurate powder tested and 75.5gr being most acc load which produces 3160fps and approx 4060ft lbs energy

not sure if you have tied or want to but the factory accubond rounds group way better in my gun and are devestating on elk at 350 yds. Im in the process of reloading some to duplicate that round. Good luck on your hunt I am green:D

The book has a ballistics index in back which lists your 180 partition at .474 bc and when you check the table with those ballisics for your win mag you can use a 3.1 in high at 100yd zero which brings you back to 0 at 300yds and -23.8in at 500yds.

I think that your choice of H4350 may be your best bet, because you will be facing possible temperature extremes over the course of your hunt, and H4350 should provide some stability over other powders in that regard.

The Partition is a great, reliable bullet, but I would also try some of the Accubonds, as they are a great bullet too, and possesses a higher BC than the Partition. The Partition shows .361 as the BC, at the site.

Nosler has good information at their load site for all their bullets.

They only list Nosler bullets in this book. I use Lee manual and online resources for other brand bullets. Hornady is one of the few that cant be accessed online.

Great stuff, Guys.

I can see that I was "right" about the .300WM---lots of versitility. I thought about the 168 grn bullet; might be a good one but I still have to have the 180 grn for some of the bigger game. ( PH recommends it!)
Do Appreciate all the inputs........................ I am 'taking notes! '

What is your opinion on the Differences between the "H4350" and the "IMR4350" ?? I treat them as different powers, of course, but interested in the actual performance as measured against each other ?

According to Hodgdons site thethey are not the same and the recomend lighter loads h4350 they show 67.0 for the H brand and 71.0 with the IMR as max.

I have had very good luck with 185 Scenars with 77 grains of N-165 but the Scenar isnt a hunting bullet.
