I like my deer DRT. Small caliber round

So a 7mm rem mag wouldn't cut it? .270 win? The wonder 6.5's? .243 win? You must be having some Saturday night cocktails :D.

I like the .300 win mag too but simply don't hunt at ranges where the win mag has any advantage over 30-06 or .308 win.

I like to push a Barne's 130 gr 3600 fps.
Hits like a lightning strike !!!

Don’t listen to em, my kid absolutely smoked a really nice buck three years ago and it got up and made it across the fence. Jack ass off a neighbor wouldn’t let us look for it, he was using a 243. That was enough of that crap. Went and got him a 300 win mag. He’s shot 7 deer and an elk with it so far, none went More than a few yards. 165 gr sst

And y'all didn't call the game warden? The game warden told a bunch of us in Hunter Ed class, if we run into that, call him and he'll go explain it to them. Seriously, there's a law on the books about retrieval of game and prevention of it.

Sick of my wimpy 6.5 CM. Going to trade trade mime off at pawn shop for ball peen hammer ,it's good for punching holes in paper not deer. Went my cabinet a got the 300 win.mag. Thee big DAWG !!! The next time I shoot a deer there Will be a blood trail and pieces parts . I lost a docent deer with a CM today .

Shot my buck this year Monday with a 105grn Hybrid from a 6mm Creed, running SUPER slow. It walked/staggered about 7yrds and collapsed. Less travel than ANY of the last 20 deer killed with a 30-06 or 300wm.

Not in wi at that time there was no such law. There was talk of changing it recently, idk if they did. If game wardens could or would do that, that’s all they’d be doing around here.

Depends on the state. In Kansas, if your deer crosses a property line, you MUST have permission to recover it, and it is fully within the right of the landowner to prohibit recovery.

This.

I would rather have a 12 gauge slugs than a whimpy CM. I'd rather hunt with a sewing machine .

It has nothing to do with range of hunting, if I have a 170 standing on the edge of my property he needs to lay down in his tracks. I have no faith in anything smaller than a 7 mm to do that. And by the way, I own many smaller caliber rifles. Nothing against them at all. There’s a time and place for everything

I have taken many deer over the years and I want to use a high shoulder shot on the animal and keep it were it stands. In that respect a 25-06 is a good deer rifle, a 270 Winchester is better deer rifle, and a 30-06 is better then either of the first two. I have added a 338-06 to my list of rifles and it works like a super 30-06. There's nothing wrong with any of these rifles but when it comes to effective tools the larger bullets just seem to work better. The larger bullets get more reaction and noise when they strike. When hunters talk about a lung shot, exit wound and a blood trail that is not interesting to me. I don't own a 300 Magnum because I don't see the advantage of the extra velocity.

i have only had a couple deer run on me, i shot one in alabama that rolled down a hill to the next property. the owner did not let me get the buck, u cant mess around down there with land. the week after i say the deer in the local taxidermy shop it was 181 inch. but more them most of the deer i have killed was with a 22-250 and a 35 rem 7 mauser after that.

Just think of a CM if were a toyota Corolla, and 300 win.mag as a camaro with 454 big block a true gas hog!!
