Does anyone have any info on 300 WinMag with 180 gr core-lokt bullets and preferable Imr4831? I am trying to load up some practice loads with those bullets instead of using my expensive tsx's to practice with. It does not have to be imr4831, that is just what i have on hand right now. Thanks in advance

If you don't have reloading manuals with data, get a few.

A standard accuracy load for 300WM with 180gr jacketed bullets is 71.6gr of IMR4831. I use Sierra Gamekings, and I get about 2900 to 2925 fps. 5 round groups off the bench with my rifle are in the 1.25" to 1.5" range. This is using new R-P brass and Federal LR primers (not magnum). OAL is 3.340".

I have found that 58.5gr of IMR4895 gives me much better accuracy, with groups consistently around 1". Velocity is less, between 2795 and 2810 fps, but that's still warmer than most .30-06 loads with 180gr bullets. That is my hunting load, and I've killed deer and a couple of bobcats with it. I believe I use Win LR primers in this load, and OAL is 3.340" as well.

FWIW, I tried some TSX, and I found the accuracy to be a bit lacking, with groups between 2-1/2 to 3" with similar velocity to the GKs. I wouldn't use a TSX much past 150 yards with any confidence. Sure, they're got excellent terminal ballistics, but IMHO, the Gameking is not lacking in that department either.

All this is said with the caveat that all rifles are different. Yours may LOVE TSX. Mine didn't.

My .02 anyhow.

Thanks,
I do have a few older manuals, i was just wandering if anyone had any remington specific info, i guess it really doesn't matter since they are not for absolute accuracy. thanks for the base line figures, they will work just fine.

What kind of gun are you shooting the tsx's out of? They fly great out of my encore pro hunter with 28" ss barrel. I found that the best load was 69.5 gr of imr4831 with remington large rifle magnum primers. I am going to try some other powders to see if they work any better.

Win M70 Classic in SS with 26" barrel. I've had it for 13 years now. I use to shoot 150gr factory Corelokts out of it. Groups were 2 to 3" and velocity was 3200fps. My rifle likes the 180s. It's OK with 200gr, but 180 seems to be the sweet spot.

You might try some R22 (I think it's 22 - it's got the the pink labelling).

The 300WM usually performs best with the slower powders at or near max.

A Rem Corelokt is really just a fairly conventional cup & core bullet & as such should be OK using data for such as Hornady, Sierra & Speer as long as your load is worked up as good sense should dictate. Most any of the start loads for the 180 gr flat base bullets in these manuals should be OK, especially with a forgiving powder like IMR 4831.
