Hi, I am interested in getting an AR in .308. I want to make it a semi-auto precision rifle. I plan to add a bipod, high-quality scope, and make it really reach out and touch. Accuracy and reliability are my two priorities.

I'd really like a fixed stock, flat top with 20" barrel. I know the Ruger SR762 is getting a lot of attention, but I don't know how accurate it is or if they only offer the 16" collapsible stock version.

I know pretty much every AR maker has a .308 variant. I am looking mostly for accuracy as there are plenty of .308 rifles and .308 ARs. I am really attracted to the SR-25, but I don't know what it brings for $3300+ that a $2000 .308 AR doesn't. Please let me know your thoughts and recommendations. Thanks.

It would depend if you're willing to wait or not.
Years ag when I wanted one, the only thing holding me back was the lack of people offering the AR 10 and standardization of parts. Things have changed a bit and its slowly moving more toward that direction.
I think you'll soon see some major changes and companies offering AR 10's in the near future.
You might find more and detailed information about this at M4Carbine. net.

SR-25
LMT MWS
Larue OBR
Noveske (if you can find one)

The SR-25 is the result of many years of refinement and testing, and its performance comes with a price tag that matches the rifle's reputation. I went for the MWS. It's one helluva gun, and as some say it's very, very close to the SR25 at a significantly lower cost. I think the MWS has been proving itself quite well with the British SAS. The OBR is also excellent, and has been performing extremely well in the competition circuit, but they are priced north of $3k.

As for standardization, I don't think the AR10 market has gotten any closer other than a general agreement on the SR25/DPMS/Magpul magazine pattern. The specs and dimensions for the guns are still all over the place. The new DPMS G2, while a nice concept, further muddies up the waters. In fact, I would strongly consider the G2 if it wasn't for the fact that it's a DPMS. I know that their line of .308 rifles outshines their 5.56 offerings, but I just can't shake off the hex.

^^^ Great list

The first thing I would ask is "Would you consider building your own?"

Simply put, the biggest % of accuracy is going to come from the barrel you choose and the load you develop/buy. That will be most affordably achieved by building your own OR rebarreling a rifle you purchased. (must check headspace if bolt/barrel aren't purchased together)

If you are going to bench it up and don't care about weight get an Armalite AR10(T) or DPMS heavy stainless. Both are relatively cost effective and absolutely accurate.

I'm on my 2nd SR-25 Match (I was an idiot and sold my first one years ago) but both shoot 0.65" or better if I do my part. I've also got a DPMS LR-308 with a 24" stainless fluted barrel. I load my own and I haven't tried everything but I just can't get under 1.25" with it using Sierra 168 Match bullets ... Last December I bought a SiG 716 DMR and I've gotten it down to 0.78"-0.92" (not suppressed & suppressed, respectively) with the same load I shoot in my SR-25 Match and I've read it will do better with a heavier bullets but due to health issues I haven't tried anything else yet ... I got my DMR off GunBroker for $1,927 after shipping and transfer so I'm very pleased with it (which at the time was a good price).

Needless to say I'm pretty happy with it, but looking forward to next year see if it'll do any better with heavier bullets!

Good luck with your research!
