.308 primer pocket differences?

Primer pocket uniformer for the win... or even a debur tool.

Just FYI... I've seen some commercial rifle ammo with crimped pockets, I would not discount it.
I'm seeing more and more crimped primers in 223 (223, not 5.56) and 308 brass. I even have some 40 S&W brass with crimped primers! What a pain!!!

Thats what I was going to suggest. Alot of factory ammo is crimped now.

Hi Guys:

I finished with the snow and took a pic (a bad one) with my cell phone of one of the Hornady cases. As had been suggested in a post, this would appear to be a “circle crimp.” I’m not sure if there’s enough detail in the photo but “circle crimp” is eponymous for sure. As I’ve been sorting this brass and decapping, I’ve now noticed very few of the Federal cases actually have this crimp. All of the Hornady and Aguila cases do, and a few random foreign headstamps (German?). I picked 50 random Federal cases, hit them with One Shot, and ran them through my progressive; all were fine. If I end up having a hundred or so Hornady cases in this batch, I may consider reaming them out. If it’s less than that I’m not sure it’s worth the time and effort. Thank you so much for the education on crimps! Until now I had no idea ANY commercial brass was crimped!

In the past 10, 10+ years or so, crimped primer pockets seem to be sneaking into the commercial ammos. Federal (FC) was an easy one, because some of it was actually made at Lake City, where they made military ammos... and now Winchester (who runs LC now...) but even stuff that isn't made there has it.
