I am looking for a specific type of .308 rifle.
-Bolt Action
-Open Sights
-Stock/Finish does not really matter, slight preference for Wood/Blued Steel
-18-22" Barrel
-Detachable Mag not necassary, but a definite plus.
-Provisions for easy mounting of a scope.

I like the CZ 527 Carbine alot, but it is only in 5.56/7.62x39, and I am looking into a rifle that will be reasonably *very* accurate inside of 200 yards, and rugged.

I also like the whole scout rifle concept, but I really want open sights, and I am not sure if any of them have open sights.

I am not naming a price, just shoot away with whatever you think might fill this niche.

Thanks

I doubt you can find ANY current-production or USED bolt rifle in .308 that isn't reasonably accurate within 200 yards.

There may be a variety of rifles from Savage, Remington, Winchester, etc that will fit the bill, but my next bush rifle in .308 or .243 will likely be a Remington 7600 pump.

Savage has a scout rifle, .308, I think 20 in barrel, iron sights, mounts for forward mounted scope.

Buy the rifle you want and have a gunsmith install iron sights. I like Ruger for what you are looking at, but many others will work.

The Savage Scout rifle may suit you.

Remington Model Seven has most of what you are asking for except for the detachable mag.

The newer versions have a better trigger but no longer come with Iron sights. The old models have iron sights but old triggers.

It does have a soda straw barrel but I don't think that is a minus when hunting. In fact I love the lightweight frame on long hikes. And it comes in .308 The one's I have shot had about 1-1.5 moa.

The model 700 Remington mountain rifle has a detachable mag, I think it's a 22" barrel, and mine has pretty nice wood. I guess they are still available. You could probably order it with sights I don't know.

Thanks guys. Surely be looking into those, the Savage in particular. Mostly for fun, but also definitely capable of putting meat on the table or predators on the ground. I'm moving out of California eventually, so a nice semi auto .308 is on the way, maybe some kind of Cali-Illegal M1A.

A good gunsmith could put iron sights on nearly anything. Something to think about.
