I am looking for a good truck gun and have a burning desre for a scout gun. So i am looking for a good "scout" rifle in in .223 if possible but i won't mind a 243 as a replacement. I was thinking of a gunsmith cutting down a cz 527 lux and the recrowning it. Would that be with it. Any ideas or suggestions?

Here is a picture of a Ruger Mini-14 in Scout Configuration. Probably make a good truck gun.

sounds like a good choice. Personally, I'd go with something cheaper like an SKS or Mauser or suchlike, just in case someone breaks into your car. Both are scout-scopeable as well.

But the CZ sounds great as well. :)

I agree with trstrafford. My .223 CZ527 would not be " improved " by cobbeling up a scout mount. It's just fine with a 4X scope. Essex

Ruger sells a bolt gun in .243 with a forward scope mount already installed. It's a trim, handy little rifle.

BTW, where did youse guys get the handguard scope mounts for the Mini's?

Thanks!
