.308 to .260 Rem conversion ?

I may have a chance to pick a a Savage .308 really cheap. In previous post in indicated that I was really interested in the 6.5 Swede so I was thinking that a .260 Remington would do. Could I just swap the barrel on the .308 for a .260? I would think so since the .260 is a necked down .308 but I am new at this kind of tinkering. Any information would be appreciated.

It should be an easy switch and uses the same headspace gauge for either caliber. All you'll need is a barrel nut wrench and a 260 barrel, along with the proper headspace gauge.

My 243 rem got turned into a 7mm-08 hart barrel. I have a 308 ruger that will be getting a 260 barrel soon. I have Hart do all my barrel work. Good luck.

That is a very simple change out, barrel nut wrench and headspace guage, and something to hold the action with. I have a standard vise I use for woodworking with a choice of wood or rubber inserts in the vise.
