Hi folks. So, like the headline says, are any of you fine folks here shooting a .260 AR10? I have the tax return coming in and thought that an AR in .260 would make a great addition to the collection. I already have a 6.5 Grendel, so I could interchange bullets (I think), which would be nice. I also have seen first hand the benefits of the 6.5mm/ .260 bullets, and the .260 is moving at an additional 200- 400 FPS... and that's my rationale for getting a .260 over a .308. Plus, I could always just get a .308 upper down the road.

So, What are you shooting? Is it accurate and reliable? Out to what range have you fired it? Anything that I should know before buying? What loads/ bullet/ bullet weights does it like? Anything that I should stay away from?

Thanks in advance.

I can't offer much but a friend of mine has been looking at the DPMS for awhile so I hope some good guys here can give us some info!

Come on now, I know that someone here has to shooting one of these.

Nope, my AR-10 is in .308 so I'm no help but I like the idea.

I too own a Grendel and I do like the 6.5mm bullet. The ability to use the same bullet in your loads is nice; I can do the same thing with my .50 Beowulf and Desert Eagle in .50 AE with 300 grain .50 cal bullets.

I say go for it and let us know how you like it. I may get inspired and join you.

Yep, I do, A DPMS in .260 Rem. with all their bells and whistles. Scope is Leupold 4.5-14X. Nicely accurate rig and great fun to shoot at long range AR competitions. (Tip, I get better reloads using Lapua .243 brass necked up to 6.5)

Yeah, nice rig Offhand. How many does that mag hold? I have a .260 bolt gun, but just bought a bunch of Remington brass. It would be cool to be able to use the same .264 bullets.

I know a lot of .260 shooters and one or two that use AR pattern rifles in the cartridge. If you want the ballistics in a semi-auto platform, go for it. You won't get the max velocities we do in bolt guns, but it'll still beat .308 and have less recoil.

Bringing this one back to the top.. I'm looking at a DPMS .260, just wondering if you are losing much with the COL and seating out bullets with the max lenght you can go in an AR10 mag? I currently have a .260 bolt and would be nice to be able to use the same cartridge on two platforms. If not, I may go .260 CM

When my .260 bolt gun barrel was new I seated at 2.80". An AR-10 style rifle that can shoot that length should not have any performance issues causes by the OAL compared to a bolt gun barrel that starts out at 2.80" when new.
