hi, i am looking at a 308 rem and a 30-06 mossberg. i need a very accurate very durable caliber. i am very fond of mossberg.i have a 88 maverick and hav dropped in water and beat the crap out of and it shoots as straight as factory. i am not asking for company opinions but what is the better gun.

Which is the better "value" will probably depend upon the price of each. I bought my oldest a 30-06 Mossberg with a Simmons 4x12 scope at a pawn shop for $225. Very good rifle for the money. (I have shot a few groups through it with 150 rem cl ammo and usually runs about 1.5 in at 100 yards (at least with me shooting it). I have had rem 700s that shot a little better but not by much and I spent much more for them. Get which ever best fits your budget and fits you best. (The only real diff in the two cals are price of surplus ammo) The 308 is high while you can still get 06 surplus pretty cheap. If that is not a consideration then pick the one that you feel is the better deal.

They are both fine for hunting in North America. The 30-06 has an edge with light (150 gr.) bullets, which increases with heavier loads.

Not sure you can get much more durable than the 30-06. Its the great American round and has been here for over 100 years and outsells all the others year after year.
