308 vs 6.5 Creedmoore
How does 308 really compare to the 6.5 Creedmoore 500 yards or less? The 6.5 Calibers are rated better long distance but within 500 yards is there really enough difference to matter? Just curious. Have great 308 thinking about 6.5 just not sure it would be better as in more accurate like I have read.
Thanks

It will be flatter shooting, and will buck the wind better with the flat trajectory being the main selling point. However, inside of 500 yards there really won't be too much difference. Out to 500 yards, you aren't really stretching the capabilites of any centerfire round larger than 6mm, so you won't see much reason to switch from .308 to anything.

Once you push past 500 though (as in 700+ yards), you will see the 6, 6.5, and 7mm bullets really outshine the .308 Winchester.

If you have a good shooting rifle in 308 and your distance is under 500...why even bother trying to reinvent the wheel?

Unless you are just bored and want another caliber, which I'm sure many of us do. If you are bored...I say go for it.

IMO, 500 yards isn't enough distance to convince me to switch over to another caliber, but you live in TX and there is a vast amount of land. I'm sure you could find plenty of spots to shoot well beyond 500 yards.

I'd push that distance to 800. 6.5 will shoot a bit flatter, but a 168 grain .308 is quite capable to 800 in a good shooting rifle.
