I keep reading and hearing about how you shouldn't use .308win in older surplus rifles and should stick with the 7.62x51 Nato stuff. My question is what rifles wouldn't you use .308win in? Has anyone ever found a rifle that wouldn't feed one or the other? Or are there guns that you wouldn't take the chance on?

I'm just curious to know since the Nato stuff seems to be just a tad bit hard to find right now, but there seems to be a decent supply of .308win still out there. I want to know which guns to avoid due to this issue?

This is kind of an old topic I know but I just read another article and figured I'd pose the question.

This always stirs up the pot pretty well. I've been doing it for years and never had any problems. I usually use 150 grain .308's, and not the heavier loadings, as most NATO ammo is loaded with 147 grain bullets.

The only guns I always watch closely either way, is the SMLE's. They seem to have a lot of headspace issues anyway, and brass life can be short regardless of ammo.

Handloading is your best source of proper loads. Winchester loads "White Box" that's a 148 grain with labeling in .308 Winchester AND 7.62x51 NATO so you don't have to buy surplus.
