I posted this over at ARFCOM, but wanted to get input over here as well.

Hiya,

Once again, I am seeking the advice of those who've walked this path before.

This is a two-part post.

Issue one:

I just got my Leupold Mark4 3.5-10x40 Illuminated TMR M3 in this week. I've got it mounted on my LR-308 with some cheap rings just to see how it fit. I've got to get some good mounts.

I am interested in a one-piece mount and maybe a QD one.

Here's the questions.

What mounts do you suggest? I am looking at a LaRue SPR, American Defense Recon, or a GG&G at the moment.

I am concerned about whether I'd need a mount with some cantilever to it or not.

Also, I will be adding flip-up BUIS to this rifle and I will need room and clearance for the rear BUIS.

Next part of this one question.

At the moment, I have an A2 stock and DPMS slab-side upper receiver. I'll be changing out the A2 stock to a Magpul PRS soon, and I'll be swaping the slab-side upper to the A3 upper. I think the A3 upper flat-top is lower to the action than the slab-side. Will that be a significant issue? If it matters for the discussion, I'll be swapping out the forearm as well. Possible forearms are the DD one, the SWS one, and the DPMS SASS one.

Thanks for any input you guys can provide here.

OK... second question...

I have a M4-gery that I'll be adding a 1-4 optic to pretty soon. I believe that it will have the Trijicon Accupoint Red Triangle 1.25-4. I am in the same boat with looking for mounts as above. Currently, I have YHM flip-up rear BUIS on the rifle, and I need a mount that will clear the BUIS. Will the Larue, American Defense Recon, or GG&G clear it? Will I need the extended eye relief mount such as the SPR-E?

I really appreciate any help you guys can provide!

I might can help with part of your question.

I've got a Bushie predator. When I tried to mount rings directly to the flatop, the spacing was off, and it did not seem to be as high as it needed to be, to accomodate my rings.

I ended up getting a (bushmaster) flatop riser that worked well. I'm using Farrell 30mm steel rings with a Mark 4 PR scope, 40mm tube.

The A2 stock was adequate, I shot well with it, but I went to the PRS stock. The length of pull is working better and the adjustable cheekpiece is giving me better cheekweld and scope alignment.

Farrell mounts and rings can be veiwed at www.usaalltheway.com or www.kenfarrell.com

It helps to push the scope as far forward as possible if you shoot from prone. SPR-E or Recon X will do that for you. I don't think the YHM BUIS will fit under the scope ocular bell. You might want to check out the Troy BUIS and ARMS 40L.

I have the Wilson Combat mount. 1" not 30mm. They both have the same height above the rail: 1.65" I find it very solid. I especially like the fact that it has 4 allen screws for each ring. Here is a pic of it mounted: http://thehighroad.org/showpost.php?p=4747325&postcount=16

As you can see it clears a 40mm objective with room to spare. That scope has an eye relief of 3.3 - 3.6 inches.
