Is it true that SP101 can take 32 H&R instead of 327 Mag? I just ordered this little Ruger. Since I can't find 327 brass, has anyone sucessfully hotrodded the 32 H&R to near 327 power?
I use the data of the Hodgen website for L'il Gun. Don't try to make a cartridge something it is not.I have an SP101 in 32 Mag and find it very adequate with data as from above. Byron
I just recently purchased a 327 Blackhawk and haven't had a chance to chrono any loads from it yet. I'm shooting a custom cast 118gr in it and a couple single sixes. I don't have an SP but if you can get a copy of Handloader Magazine theres an article about the 327 in this months issue. There's also a good write up in the FEB 09 issue as well. From what I've read the SP 327, 3" is getting 13-1400fps. My loads in the single six 4-5/8bbl get 1100 pretty easy with a 115gr cast using AA#9 & H110. There's probably room for more speed but accuracy was better around 1100fps so I stopped. I really like the 32's & as soon as the snow melts & it warms up a little I'm going to chrono some loads I've made & see what they'll do.
There was an article on that in the latest Handloader magazine. The author said the base of the cartridges were similar, and that if the gun was strong enough you could do it. The SP should be strong enough, but I have a hard time trusting a gun writer. But that's just me.
