Many thanx Bannock...as I've aged, I've found that making grips for my son's and friends is a useful way to spend some retirement time and the leather work just comes naturally with 35 years of horses around the place.
I smiled & nodded at your comments in post #8 regarding bullets and brass. I too had problems early on, especially with Federal factory loads that would split lengthwise losing 10 out of a box of 50 on first firing. Since then I've used Starline brass with complete satisfaction...but I do trim them a few thousandths to even up the lengths, improving my crimps, but the basic brass is excellent.
Too, Hornady's' excellent XTP's, (85 or 100 gr) are both accurate but do need some speed for expansion. But, really, in truth, 95% of my shooting is with cast bullets using RCBS' 32-98 SWC or the Accurate Bullet molds equivalent. Accuracy is as good as the Hornadys and I've pushed them up to 1150 fps or so and had no problems with leading. We're talking sub-2" groups at 25+ yds on demand and often smaller if the sun's behind me and I'm having a 'good eyes' day.
