Went to the range with a friend to today. Took numerous guns with us, the main one I wanted to try was my new 329PD...

Pulled out the Ruger S. Blackhawk to fire some stout 240gr .44 Magnums to warm my hand up, blam blam, no probs, I'm used to firing the SB, and a 629 mountain gun with stout loads, I fire them fine...

Pulled out the 329PD and fired off the first cylinder full of Hornady custom .44 Specials and thought, "aww shucks, this aint nothin"...
Loaded up the 329PD with the ammo from the Ruger SB... Fired a shot.

OUCH, felt the recoil wave go all the way up my arm into my brain. Maybe a slight concussion... couldn't remember who was president was, thought it was Al Gore.

Second shot, fired double action, OOWWWWWWCH! Wasn't holding the gun right in double action mode I guess, smacked both my right hand thumb and trigger finger on the gun during the recoil pulse... Abundant cursing. Blunt trauma brusing. Shock. Loss of consciousness.

Good training for me injuring my right hand, I am ambidextrous anyway, so I fired my HK USP-Compact .45acp and SIG P239 in .357sig left handed the rest of the afternoon... I have been carrying both guns CCW, my analytical brain wants me to like the cocked and locked .45 better, but EVERY TIME I go shoot the guns, the SIG P239 just feels "right" in my hand (even my left hand) and I just shoot the gun amazingly. My hand fits it's grip perfectly, the trigger is just SOOOO sweet, the recoil just light enough for amazing fast work...

Maybe guns are like people, and some pairs just seem to bond and work together like no other, if that is true then I am completely bonded to my P239 .357sig, I seem to be able to do no wrong with the gun or it's P229 bigger brother. Even though I keep trying to cheat on my SIGs with exotic USP HKs in .45acp or ultralight S&W .357mags, it's the SIGs in .357 that still own me, right or left handed, we are bound together, can do no wrong, working perfectly together, like peanut butter and jelly!

:D

My right hand trigger finger has turned purple in front of the middle nuckle... it still hurts! My 629 Moutain Gun has never bit me anywhere near that hard... nor has my scandium .357.

Please don't make me fire that cursed 329PD with magnums again... :uhoh:

I'll probably have flashbacks for weeks

:neener:

I also fired my friend's S&W 627 Performance Center 8 shot snubby.

I really liked that gun, very nice and controllable even with heavy .357 180gr loadings.

He also had a little Rossi snubnosed .357 mag 6 shooter that I really liked. It reminded me alot of my Colt Magnum Carry, except that I actually liked the action of the Rossi MUCH BETTER. My Colt's action feels like a toy cap gun!!

I may have to pick up a couple of these nifty little Rossi for car carry guns, thats what he uses it for, and at $250 it seems like a bargain. He's fired his hundreds and hundreds of times and never had a problem, has anyone heard anything particular good or bad about these little Rossi revolvers?

Met an old timer at the range recently.
He had nerve damage in his hands so bad that he could only fire his T/C 22Hornet from a bench rest. He couldn't even close all his fingers around it. He said it was firing magnum revolvers for too many years. (FWIW)
I shot my Glock 20 in IDPA recently. It's a great gun with a normal two handed grip, but I struggled shooting weak hand only.
Broke out my Sig P226 and with just a little practice my one handed shooting has improved greatly.
Those Sig's just fit like a glove, and it really shows when you have to go with one hand.
Like you said, they become an extension of your arm. And your brain, not your finger, fires the gun.

I wish S&W never stopped producing the 3" 627. Next time they produce a batch it will be on my list.
