1. What are other names for this caliber?
30-338???

2. Are there any other cartridges that this gun can fire?
Examples:
5.56 - .223
7.62 -.308
.357 Mag - .38 Special
.44 Mag - .44 Special

.338 Mag - ?????

Thanks for the help

Other names

338 win mag

that's it.

On the 30-338 you might be thinking of the 338'06 which is the 30'06 cartridge blown out to the proper caliber. Not the same thing as the 338 win mag though.

I don't know of any other cartridges I'd fire in a 338.

Huh?

There's like a couple of generally accepted cartridges - .338 Lapua and .338 Win...

The .338/06 is a wildcat.

Don't remember what the "magnum" boltface is, but I can pretty much guarantee that it ain't gonna work with other cases...

Suggestion: Tell us what you're looking for, ask questions, and odds are we'll answer.

REALLY HEAVY SUGGESTION: if the rifle in question sez ".338 whizzbanger" (or whatever, okay?) on the side, don't feed it some other cartridge. Ask here first. You only have so many finger and eyes to play with.

Trust us. There are very many kind folks in this forum.

There are other .338's, but they are not the same thing.
.338 Win Mag
.338 Lapua Mag
.338 Remington Ultra Mag
etc. they are all .338 but can't be fired from the same rifle.

LiberalismIsIllogical, I tried to PM you on this, but there were problems sending the message. RRTX has it right.

You also said earlier "5.56 - .223" .223 and 5.56 mm bullets are identical in OD (#4). Just like my Colt rifle would have problems feeding & ejecting a 5.56 x 45 cartridge .. .223 caliber is what i should be using. Lapua and Winchester might possess similar problems.
