Hi!

I'm just about ready to load up my first batch of .35 Rem. for the new/old Marlin 336.

I have a bunch of different powders on hand that would work (IMR3031, H335, W748, possibly others), but on paper, Win 748 seems just about the best suited to this cartridge, so I figured I'd start there.

I've got 100 Speer 180 gr. FPs, 100 Hornady 200 Gr. JRNs, and 50 Speer 220 gr. FPs. to try out.

Anyone care to divulge your super-secret pet loads? Or at least your favorite powder?

Many thanks!

-Sam

Hi!

Thanks! I've just loaded 50 with 180 gr. FPs from Speer over various loads of H335 and BL-C2. Now I'm loading 50 with 200 gr. Horandy RNs over various weights of IMR3031, 4064, and Win 748. Next will be the 220 gr. FPs, but I haven't decided on powders there, yet.

Thanks!

I use Reloader 10 and am pleased, but I've not chrono'ed the loads - only measured them for accuracy.

Yes, I SERIOUSLY have to buy a chrono before I run this test batch downrange. Too many years of working out loads without one. Just dumb frugality on my part.

My first deer rifle was a used Rem. mod. 8 in .35 Rem. I got it for $55 and wondered how I would ever justify such an extravagance to my wife. Oh yeah, that was about the time the earth's crust started to cool and we quit using square wheels. I still shoot it from time to time although it hasn't been my main deer gun for many years and have had very good results with IMR4064 behind 200 gr. Rem cor-lokts. Hard to beat for woods hunting. Just my .02

Chrony's are very useful things, if a bit of a PITA to set up at a busy range.

I've not chrono'ed my 35 Remmie loads because, in the end, I'm not interested in squeezing a few extra FPS from them. The 35 Remmie isn't much of an LD round due to the need to use FP or RN bullets in it (short of Hornady releasing their LeveRevolution bullets as components). Most folk that I know that use it never have to take a shot over 150 yards. That being the case, accuracy and consistency is more important than anything else.

My Marlin 336RC with a 2.5x Leupold scout scope on it wil give me two inch or less five-shot groups at 100 yards with RE10 and Speer bullets. Works for me.

I've been meaning to try H4198 and H322. If that works out OK, that'll standardize my powders a bit better, since I use those two powders in my 7.62x39 and 6.8SPC loads.

I've gotten phenomenal accuracy with H322. Also good accuracy from BL-C2. But, for max performance, nothing equals H4895 in the .35Rem.

The "book" listed max loads are way under what the Marlin M336 action will take. Start with the listed max load of 38.5 and work up slowly. My rifle prefers 40.0gr for about 2,275fps. This kills deer like lightning with the excellent Remington 200gr CorLokt. This is the best bullet for the .35Rem.

DON'T EXCEED PUBLISHED MAX LOADS WITH RIFLES OTHER THAN THE REMINGTON M7, 760, OR MARLIN M336. THE ABOVE LOADS ARE SAFE IN "MY RIFLES. USE YOU OWN JUDGEMENT.

There is a lot of information on loading for the .35Rem at www.marlinowners.com Look in the archives under my "handle" and that of 35Remington. A lot of excellent anecdotal information on the vastly underestimated/rated .35Remington.

Hey!

Thanks much for your advice!

Unfortunately, i've been trying to become a member over at marlinowners for several weeks but have never gotten my confirmation email, nor any replies to my emails to the admin.

Oh well.

Glad to hear the 336 will take a heavy load o.k. My books dissagree WILDLY about what the loads should be (some books' starting loads are the MAX loads listed in others!) and the powder companies' web sites haven't been much better.

Guess I'll be safe.

Thanks!
