I would like to try loading the whelen with 180g spire points. does anyone have experience with this weight bullet in the Whelen?

there are 180,200,225 and 250 g plus heavier bullets for the Whelen. as the Whelen is a fairly hard kicker(recoil) in a single shot TC encore rifle, i would be attempting to minimize recoil with the 180g bullets. i will be hunting deer only.

i am thinking the minimum charge of powder from Lymans 49th that will give decent groups at 100yds.

any thoughts or suggestions welcomed.

With two different 35W rifles I have loaded 10 gr pistol powder and 158 gr .357" JHP pistol bullets. They shoot clover leaf holes at 50 yards, are cheap to shoot, don't kick, and are good way to get everything right before shooting the big ones.
