"...most loads were for 6"..." Makes no differnce other than a bit less velocity. Who made the bullet doesn't matter either. Just remember that the data on Alliant's site are max loads.

I will share with you my experience with the lead loads. Been playing with it quite a bit lately myself. Been trying to get loads that perform in both revolver and rifle (.357).

What has worked for me so far.

Plain lead SWC 158gr.
Bullseye 3.5gr to 3.8gr., and 4.7gr. These do very well in my revolvers.
Didn't find any shine with Unique and soft lead.

Hardcast SWC or RNFP 158gr.
5.0gr. Bullseye
6.4gr Unique
12gr. AA#9
13.6gr 2400 (this one not so great in my rifle)

Looks normal to me. With Mpro7 it comes right off so whats the issue? Was it accurate?
Cleaning is not the problem. It was like shooting a black powder gun. I do know that lube does smoke alot but this was ridiculous.

No copper bullets as I just want to play and that makes them too expensive to just shoot for fun.

i have used both unique and 2400, along with several others. i like 2400 best for mid range to magnum.

6.0 gr of Unique works for me with a cast 158gr SWC bullet.
Or 4.5gr of Unique with Missouri Bullets 148gr DEWC.
