The only rifles of this chambering I have been able to find are lever action and are very expensive ($500+). Any information on manufacturers of such arms will be greatly appreciated.

Hit the gun shows and pawn shops. Cowboy action shooting has created a pretty big demand on that type of gun. Unfortunately I see the price up everywhere these days. Even gunbroker.com has 'em listed in the $370-$400 range.

Marlin (the non-cowboy guns are cheaper)
Look for an old Rossi Puma 92 SRC

I just bought a used Marlin 1894C in .357 for $350 including a scope and a nice leather sling. Scope is set up so you can use either the scope or iron sights.

H&R made a few single shots and the barrel can be installed on most new one, just not ordered new from the factory. You have to send it in and have it fitted.

Check out Big 5. I see people mentioning on here that they sell the 1894c for between about $325 and $400 (depending on whether it's on sale at the time).

NEF used to make a .357 single-shot rifle, but I haven't seen one in a while. They were a popular first gun for younger deer hunters here in New England. Cheap, reliable and accurate.

Most folk who own one don't want to sell. This would be a good gun for NEF to start making again.

You hear that out there, Marlin folks? We don't need a .500 S&W rifle with ammo over $1.50 a round. We don't need a .243 youth gun when shots up here are 75 yards max. Bring back the .357 magnum Handi rifle.

I'm having a tapered 357 barrel made up for my G2 Contender. I haven't decided whether to go 18" or 21", though I'm leaning towards the shorter length. I don't think that the extra 3" of barrel will get me much more velocity but it might be a little softer shooting.

I had a Marlin 1894C but sold it to my cousin who uses it for predator control. The Marlin is a pretty skookum little rifle but I'm looking forward to ordering my Contender barrel. Since I handload it should be a bit more versatile.

I haven't seen the Big 5 1894CH available for a while. Last year I waited almost too long to get mine. I bought the second to last one in all of Southern California. They said at that time they were not going to order any more from Marlin. I didn't check on the 44mag version but the 30-30 is still being listed in the sales fliers every great while for $375. Then you find the 10% coupon to bring it down some more.

I picked up a Rossi Trapper in .357 for $250 less than a year ago. Great little rifle. They're out there, be patient and keep looking.

The .357 is a great carbine round.

As for .357 rifles, I love my Marlin 1894C. A real "gunny-looking" gun and great to shoot. Note, however, that you will destroy your friend's steel dueling tree with it. Heh-heh.
