Just received my 357 Sig barrel for my P229 started to load a few hundred rounds then ran into a conflict. Using my Speer #14 manual picked up some Accurate #9 set up my scale for 13.8 grs. (Mid range from low to high). I noticed the case was full after seating a Remington 125 JHP to OAL of 1.140 and it’s a compressed load. The Speer manual does not indicate a compressed load with any amount of AA#9. Went on Accurate website to check the data, Speer starting load for AA#9 and 125 JHP is 13.1 and Accurate MAX load is 13.0 that’s a huge discrepancy. :banghead: So I am not sure about my 13.8 loads. Has anyone loaded 357 Sig using AA #9 and are they compressed loads? Or am I missing something, just don’t want my P229 to go boom.
Thanks,

That's pretty warm, and as you've found out, you can't get that much in the 357 Sig case and still have room to seat the bullet. For 124/125 gr. bullets, I use 13.0 grains, as Accurate advises. I'm 13,000 rounds into this load and it's worked just fine for me. If your Remington bullets isn't a Golden Sabre, you'll be ok. If it is, it won't work in the 357 Sig.

Hope this helps.

That is the Ideal part of using the AA#9 .... it is a compressed load which helps support the bullet so you do not have setback....

The 13.5 grain(Hornady 124 gr XTP) load of #9 is safe in my Glock 31 .... I'm getting right at 1400 fps with that load ...

I would try 13 grains to see ...may be a max in your gun... I have backed my load back down to 13 gr ...

My Lyman's 49th says AA #9 is compressed at 13.0 gr. Shooting this drop work well in my Glock.

It's not a Golden Saber. I don't understand how Speer expects you to get 14.6 grs (max load) in a 357 sig case. It would be to the top of the rim. I sent an e-mail to Speer but no reply from them.

Thanks that make me feel a little better. I guess I need to get another reloading manual for comparison. I have used Speer for several years with no problem until now. But I just loaded 44 mag and 300 Weatherby mag until now.

What is interesting is the Speer manuals test firearm is the Sig P229 that’s the same gun I am using. But I am not going to put a round at max charge of 14.6 in my gun. Accurate shows the max load at 13.0 and what I have been hearing on this site that seems to be a safe load. I may load a little lighter and check the velocity and adjust from there.
Thanks,
