357 snubbie

Just thought I'd weigh in on 357 snubs. The guns named so far are all good but if you want to go "old school", the baddest 357 snub of all has got to be the old fixed sight Colt Lawman two inch. It's small enough to carry and conceal, even in an ankle rig, although it is a little too big for front pants pocket carry in jeans. It works great out of coat pockets, especially the map pocket of my beat up leather flight jacket. The trade off for the extra weight and size is that it will handle any magnum load better than the smaller, lighter guns, giving you more control for fast shooting. Second to the Lawman, I'd look at S & W 2.5 inch 66's and 19's, the older the better.

Actually...

....Rugers website lists the SP 101 in 3 1/8" bbl at 28 ounces. A bite more weight to soak up .357 recoil , but (usually) too much weight for pocket-carry.

if you want a pocket gun you do not want the ruger. for those whining about the recoil of .357 in a j frame. your whole purpose of ccw is not FUN shooting, it is to save you and yours when the fan gets hit.

Practice with your CCW is very important. If it is painful you won't do much. Most likely the range will be short and the target will be large but you also need to be capable of fast recovery for follow up shots.

What is more likely to save your neck is a bullet that is quickly placed in an organ that results in instant disability. What won't do anything constructive is an ultra-powerful cartridge in an extra lightweight package - that you can't hit anything with - and do it fast and repeatedly. :uhoh: :scrutiny:
