357 vs 38+p+ vs 38+p vs std 38

No. A .357 Magnum revolver will handle any super duper + P you can throw in it. (Factory stuff, of course. I imagine an ambitious handloader can still blow one up).

357 magnum literally runs at 2x the pressure of even the +p 38spl

No problems whatsoever

I like forindooruseonly's comment about the ambitious handloader. Factory stuff only. I have a Model 19 and have used all the ammo you were asking about. No problem.

Handloading isn't a problem as long as you stay within SAAMI specs for .357 Magnum (35,000 psi) or below.

Since you edited the sig line and proven to everyone else who hasn't done so that it actually can be done, why don't you just erase it? :) I've never complained about it, but it is a tad annoying that folks can't figure out how to change it!

Actually, I believe Elmer Keith reported that his .38-44 loads were in the 42,000psi range. Which is significantly higher than the current SAAMI standard for the .357. Although use of such loads in appropriate sixguns has never been an issue.

Current .38 Special +P factory loads are at a pressure level not much above standard loads - 18.5 k cup vs 17 k. +P+ loads have no SAAMI pressure standard that I know of since they were never sold on the market, and made only on government contract. But a box I have is marked to be used only in revolvers chambered for the .357 Magnum.

The .38 Special +P+ was a public realations round. It gave police officers essentially the power of the .357 Magnum, but allowed the department P.R. officer to deny that the local friendly police were using that awful Magnum ammunition, only the old standard .38 Special. In other words, CYA ammo for the cops.

.38 Special = 17,000 PSI
.38 Special +P = 18,500 to 20,000 PSI
.357 Magnum = 35,000 PSI

You have to love the marketing done by the ammo manufacturers, don't you?

A couple reasons. A I like it and B it lets folks know why some really retarded word substutions may exist al la autocomplete.

Its really fundamentally no different than the forum sig lines. I made it small what more do you want?
