.357 xtp load

so I got my hands on a couple hundred XTP 158 gn .38caliber bullets for my 5inch 357 mag.

I am new to reloading and only have 2400 and bullseye, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for loads with 2400?

CCI 500 Primer, Alliant 2400 14.8 grains MAX, 1225 to 1,265 FPS

2400 is my favorite powder for 357 mag with plated & jacketed bullets. I just started with the starting load data in my Lyman 49 and started working up. It wasn't long till I found some good loads. Now they did call for mag primers (for all powders ) but I couldn't tell any significant difference with 2400 so I've just been using standard primers.

I've not found the accuracy I want with lead bullets and 2400 though. But it's looking like Accurate #9 is gonna work to launch my Missouri Bullets. I've still got some work to do on that but it will have to wait until it cools off some. I hate this time of year.

According to their October 2001 reloading manual that I downloaded a couple of years ago, Fed 200 primer, 15.2 grains 2400, 1535 fps from a 5.6" barrel. (that seems optimistic.) Pressure is listed at 33100 psi.

Try 14.0 grains of 2400 with that bullet.
Standard primers are fine, in fact recommended with 2400.

It is not a balls to the wall max load, but it is easy on guns, and easy on the shooter too.

2400 will shoot fine from 13-14.8 grains, tight crimp.

Nola, Hornady's XTP bullets are the most accurate jacketed handguns bullets I've tried in my 357 mag and 357 Maximum, so you started with the right bullet!

I like 14.5gr 2400 under a 158gr jacketed bullet using a standard primer. If you want something a little lighter 14.0gr isn't bad either. (as suggested by rcmodel)
