.357mag LEVERevolution

I went out yesterday and got a box of the 140gr 357mag leverevolution. I only have a 6" GP100 to shoot them in. I have heard that they don't perform too well out of a revolver. I decided to pull the red tip out of one of the bullets and it makes a mean looking hollowpoint. Has anyone else tried this? I haven't had a chance to test it out.

I have read that they had increased velocity out of all revolvers that were used in the testing - but I can't remember the magazine I got the info from. Accuracy was also on par with any other bullet IIRC.

So, I guess I'm wondering what you've heard about them and poor performance in revolvers.

I can't remember where I read it, but it had to do with the bullet itself. The bullet seemed to perform better from a rifle cause of the longer barrel, it needed the higher velocity. I don't know too much about these loads so I could be wrong.

357 Hornady 140 grain flextip out of a S & W M-28 6 inch barrel

low - 1356 fps
High - 1461 fps
E.S. - 105 fps
avg. - 1409 fps
S.D. - 33

Has anyone shot one of these after pulling the red tip out?

the red tip is just there to make it more aerodynamic, if it hits a hard target the red tip comes out and it makes it a hollow point if i remember correctly.

......and so you can safely use a pointy tipped bullet in a tubular magazine......thus the name, Leverevolution. Both of these benefits are moot when using them in a .357 revolver.

If only Buffalo Bore would come out with LEVERevolution slugs on their ammo. I bet the 140s would be something like 2300 fps from a Marlin 18 inch 1894!

And from a 4 inch .357 revolver around 1500!

Out of my Contender w/20" MGM barrel, they'll print a clover leaf group at 50 yds. I have yet to try them out of a decent revolver.
