I'm looking to buy a new Glock and I have it narrowed down to these two calibers in a Glock 20 or 31. It will mostly be a range gun and may get put in the truck or on the nightstand fo HD. A friend of mine has a .357SIG and I loved it from the first time I shot it. I have also shot a 10mm and I swore it was the next gun I would buy. I know that the ammo for each can be hard to find and a little costly to shoot. I carry a Glock 21 on duty so I can use all the gear I already use if I wanted to carry the 20. I want some opinions on which one I should get. Both are pretty hot rounds and that is why I like them both. If I could I would just buy both and be twice as happy but the wife put an end to those thoughts the first time I brought it up:)

I'm with Tezcatlipoca,

Get BOTH! The ammo will be more expensive but you'll have a ball with your "field expedient" barrier/penetration test. And you can easliy take 75 yard shots with both.

I carry a G31 on duty. I also own 2 G20s. I like both but i love the 10mms.

Get the G20 and then you can not only get a .357 SIG bbl for it but also a 40 S&W bbl for slighly cheaper shooting. If you get into handloading 9x25 Dillon also becomes an option.

The 10mm is definitely the powerhouse between the two. The 357sig still packs a punch, but a .40 caliber bullet moving at speeds comparable to the 357 takes the cake.

The 10 wins in power, but there are other things to consider. The Glock 10mm guns are FAT. I have normal sized hands, and I've owned a Glock 27 and 19. They weren't comfortable, but i could still get my hand around them with ease. The 10mm Glocks are built like bricks and don't handle very well in my opinion. Keep in mind that any Glock in .357 sig would be significantly smaller feeling than any 10mm... unless your hands are pretty big you might regret going with the 10mm.

Personally, unless you are in need of a woods-defense auto, I feel like the 10mm is overkill. I would definitely get one IF i already owned a .357 sig:D Until I have a P229 .357 sig in my collection, I wont look twice at the 10mm:p

I have a G20 and a KKM .40 S&W conversion barrel. It’s a great combination. IMO, you can’t do better than 10mm in a semi-auto for all ‘round versatility.

Glock now offers the G21 in a "SF" series that has a slimmed grip. Hopefully, they'll offer the G20 with this option.

I feel like the 10mm is overkill.
:D   And that's why we love it!!!

But no one seems to think a 357mag is overkill, that always perplexes me. I think it might be that most 357mag pistols carry 5 or 6 rounds, where a 10mm auto usually carries a minimum of 10+1 (G29) up to 15+1 in the case of the full size witness.

And yes, the Glocks are tanks and they simply don't need to be that wide. If you're a Glock fan and interested in one, look into having Robar do a grip narrowing on one. 10mmtalk.com is a good resource for all things 10mm. I really dig the 10mm round and find it easier to find than 357sig when perusing for plinking fodder. Both are ridiculously expensive for defensive ammo, but geez, I only shoot that up about once a year to check function, then back to the plinking fodder for economics and a magazine or two for the nightstand.

I own a G32 (.357 sig) and love it. I bought it as a beefed up version to complement my G19.

I've never shot a 10mm, but have heard that they cycle slower. I like a fast follow up shot. - Do whatever floats your boat, this is just what i've heard.

My vote is for the 10mm. However, I would LOVE to see a 1911 chambered in .357 SIG. I know it's been done on a custom basis and that bottle-necked cartridges don't seem to do to well in the 1911 platform BUT I still think it could be done.
