Just a quick question for you reloading old hands from a newbie.

I'm interested in .358 Win as a multiuse thumper / varmint / plinking cartridge, but am not sure how tight barrel's caliber tolerances are. Will .355 9mm bullets would work like the slightly bigger .357 handgun bullets do?

Does that two thousandths of an inch end up creating too much room in the .358 barrel and make such a round less accurate and/or any other problems? Or should it work okay? It seems like an awful small difference to cause much of any issue, but I'm still ignorant about so much of this.

Specifically I'm curious about the 147grs for dual use as a pistol and rifle plinking load. Or would that be too light a weight and cause other issues I haven't even considered (if that's the case, then I'd just stick with the 158gr .357 bullets)?

I've tried shooting 9mm plated bullets in a .357. I got varying degrees of recoil and gap blast. It was a total crapshoot. Out of a closed breech firearm, you might have better luck.

I've only used the .357 pistol bullets in my .358 cal rifles, with great results! Lead 125gr TC under 5-7gr of Trail Boss is a lot of fun in my .358 Win, and 4-5gr of TB works great in my .35 Rem.

I load .357 bullets in .358win all the time and have used 124gr 9mm plated lead bullets with TrailBoss. Makes a nice 1600-1800fps plinking round that shoots around 4" at 100y. Very very low noise too. More of a "pop" than a BANG.
