Just got a Ruger M77 in 358W.

Wondering if any of you had actual hunting experience with the 358W shooting 225 Nosler Partitions (or 200 Barnes X or your favorite bullet) starting out at about 2450-2500 fps or so on medium sized elk (~ 500#'s +/-) out to about 240-250 yards max, reasonable angles and good shot placement.

I'm interested in some degree of surety with proper shot placement. Is the 358W ADEQUATE or MORE than ADEQUATE for this hunting shot...? I know it will work very well out to 200 yards, just not sure about the extra 40-50 yards on such a tough animal. I've got a 338W for absolute surety at longer ranges and bigger animals, but am trying to warm to the 358W for more than deer hunting.

I am not looking to revive a discussion of which is better between the 358W or 350RM in this scenario, as I know the speed/power/trajectory differences and can get a 350RM if that is what I SHOULD use, but if the 358W is MORE than adequate I want to give it a go.

Thanks Joe
