I have acquired a replica1851 .36 cal, 7.5" Navy Revolver. It was imported & sold by EIG & manufactured by Fratelli Tanfoglio of Brescia, Italy. I am looking for a spare cylinder for this revolver & am curious if anyone knows if the .36 cylinders made by Pietta or Uberti would fit. Far reach I'm sure but worth asking.

It's unlikely but you'll have to try one to see. I can't remember running across a Tanfoglio replica in all the years I've been on black powder forums.

I hear you & knew it was a long shot. However, I've been impressed with the depth of the Highroad membership & figured what the heck. I inherited this one still coated in cosmoline, did some research & did find traces of them here & there. Apparently they weren't all that popular. Might explain why EIG isn't still operating, lol.

Can't help with the spare cylinder. Like Hawg, I haven't heard of this maker in Italy or the quality of their guns. My thought is to just shoot it and have fun. Changing cylinders on a Colt isn't as quick and easy as it is with a Remington 1858.

BTW, is it a steel or brass frame?

Jeff

It's a combo in the way of the Peittas, brass & steel. Your advice anticipates my intentions completely. I fully intend to shoot it regardless of whether or not I find a spare cylinder. The spare cylinder is a convenien not an essential. I actually did locate a cylinder awhile back but the seller was asking $125 + shipping. Now the value of the revolver, even now is 100 to 150 so I gave it a fast pass. With a functional firearm, time is on my side so I'll enjoy the firearm & keep looking.

Long shot but you could attempt to contact Dixie Gun Works and see if they might have someone there with knowledge of the model and what will fit it.

This is my follow-up to Lance's suggestion to ck with DGW regarding any interchangeability between Pietta or Uberti .36 cylinders & that of EIG's .36 Navy. I have since obtained a spare .36 cylinder for my EIG but it's nevertheless nice of DGW to respond. Here's their input:
Dear Sir:
Our gunsmith says that the Pietta or Uberti cylinders will not work. He
does not know of a cylinder available which will fit.
Thanks,
DGW INC.

Bummer news but good to know.

Yes, i wish the DGW gunsmith would have given whys but If anyone has a .36 Pietta or Uberti & wants to compare. My EIG .36 cyl measures (based on my precision HF caliper lol): cyl is 1.525" OD, cyl length is 1.703" long (not incld rachet portion), the arbor (cyl pin) hole is .427" ID & the size of the ratchet is .684" OD. If someone does make a comparison I'd appreciate knowing how the measurements compare.
