Does anyone know of a reliable source of .375" or .377", 250 or 255 grain flat nose soft point bullets for my 38-55 High Wall Winchester? I would prefer the .377" bullets because they are slightly more accurate, but can use the .375" bullets if I have to. I can't afford to buy the Barnes Originals any more. They cost $44.00 for a box of 50 and that's just too much for mostly target shooting. My rifle doesn't seem to like cast lead bullets. I have more bullet molds in different diameters and weights that you could ever believe since I have 6 different 38-55's. I have tried different alloys from the softest almost pure lead, to pure linotype in all the different bullet weights and styles I can find but my High Wall just plain doesn't like them. I need a good jacketed bullet that will expand at 1200 to 1500 FPS velocities. I tried spire point bullets and round nose bullets made for the .375 H&H class rifles, and they don't expand reliably at low velocities. I even did testing in wet newspaper and ballistic gelatin. I'll never mess with ballistic gelatin during the hot days of a Louisiana Summer again! Talk about a mess! But that's how I found out about the unreliable expansion. The Barnes Originals are great bullets that do a super job of expanding at 1200 FPS, but other than a few old Hornady bullets I found somewhere, nothing else has worked. Hornady no longer makes these bullets either. I'm starting to believe I am the only person who wants to shoot jacketed bullets in his 38-55. This High Wall is super accurate and I really enjoy shooting it, but 44 to 50 dollars for 50 bullets is just too high.

Out of curiousity have you tried paper patched bullets. I've no experience with them but teh idea is worth a try. Lots of folks here suggest castboolits.com they mat be able to give some help
