Did you get a owners manual with the BOSS? Generally on the ones that I have shot, the manual will give you a "suggested" setting for the bullet weight you are going to use and then you fine tune by turning in small increments and shooting the groups from there.

BOSS advice and 375 HH and 375 Ruger

No manual for BOSS, gun bought lightly used. Could contact Browning I suppose.
Any ideas for initial setting? I plan to shoot 150 gr winchester silver box first, then 180 gr Fusion in 300 WM.

I have researched 375 Ruger since some of yall brought it up: very interesting:cool:

I want the Ruger Alaskan Guide or Ruger M77 Hawkeye Alaskan. If I go 375 Ruger: I am a concerned about limited ammo availability and high price.

Other models to consider?
I saw a mossberg for Like $400 and a Savage for like $600 but not sure i want to trust my life to mossberg. Any ideas?

Also, how much worse is recoil vs 375 HH?

For 375 HH what are your recs?

Recoul

Felt recoil is subjective.....very much so.
Shooting a gun with heavy recoil at the range from a bench is VERY different than shooting it in the field.
How it feels is as much a function of stock design, the weight of the firearm, your body type, How you are dressed, how you hold the gun, as it is the loading itself.
Experience with the rifle and the load also plays a part in how recoil is perceived.

About recoil: I'm one of the more tolerant humans out there from my experiences with others and the 375 H&H at the top loadings isn't brutal at all...but if you don't have a good recoil pad it's going to make it less comfortable.

The Ruger #1 Tropical comes with a hard red rubber pad...and I could enjoy shooting about 5 shots before my shoulder started to complain about the abuse it was taking. Of course, this is a LOT of shooting if actually hunting so it might be a non-issue, but if you like to practice a bunch or just shoot targets and want to put lots of rounds through it...you'll likely want a good pad. The Limbsaver fitted pad for the #1 totally transformed shooting it and removed any round count for me...can go all day without discomfort now.:)

Oh...the other consideration might be ammo availability: just about anywhere in the World you'll very likely be able to find H&H but even here in the USA finding 375 Ruger might be an iffy thing. Handloading for either would be VERY recommended! Even a simple manual Lee handloader would work just fine and save you mucho dinero.

Anyways, I just picked up a .375 h&h but have little experience with it, so I'm sure someone can add more

Sooo did you pick the .375 already or not?
Some of your posts indicate you did, others you're still looking.

Say, there is a Like new , a NIB and a slightly used Mod 700 Classic Mod 700 (and a BDL SS ) in .375 H&H on www.Gunbroker.com "right now" for around $800 bucks! I "promise you" you will get tons of use from these particular models!

Thanks,

No I have NOT bought a 375 of any type even.

Yes, I have gotten 300WM, etc recently.

Still open to advice on 375 HH and Ruger

I like the Ruger M77 Hawkeyes and the Alaskan guide. It is over 8 lbs, but has 20 " barrel.

Many have also rec. Winch. M70 HH and I know they are heavy and solid.

Ideas?
