.38 & .30-30

Here's a minor revision -- added some calibers while collecting initial data through post 21 (haven't recorded anything since then yet).

Each "1" is a tick mark.

I need to double check: I may have entered one too many for 9.

But initial observations suggest this will be anything but a uniform distribution.

Interesting that there's only 1 rifle so far: mine.

Between what is on a wall-mounted gunrack, in a glass-fronted cabinet, and hidden around the house are .22LR/Mag, .25, .32, .32-20, .380, .357, .243, 7.62 x 39, and 12 gauge.

Some are handguns, some are rifles, and 3 calibers go in both (.22LR & Mag, & .357).

So I think it'll be good if we try to limit the calibers to 2 or 3 rather than list a bunch, like I suggested in post 3. I've been kind of lax asking for that, but ... Otherwise, we'll be getting really long lists. And lets stick to handguns and rifles for this exercise, and hold off on shotguns. (Yes, I know, not totally reasonable or fair.)

I'm trying to set up an exercise here loosely described by a few calibers (and blades) that you'd want with you regardless of where "here" is, and in a way that assumes that some "here" places are not conducive to larger number of guns, like a camp or an emergency transit scenario, like during a natural emergency, social disruption, whatever. (I don't see a need to discuss specifics.)

I've been a minimalist for years, really decades. I never own more than 4 guns at a time, and am moving toward a time soon when it's only three, carefully chosen -- yes, I know that will make many jaws drop with horror  , but it's just my style and choice, dictated in part my a highly mobile lifestyle driven by professional requirements that prevents me from settling in one place for long. There are other reasons, also, but I'll spare you.

The point is, I have my kit, and have thought it out over a long period of time, based in trial, error, experience, opinions of others, and what I think I'd want in a minimal kit to meet a wide variety of circumstances.

My 4 gun minimal kit for most circumstances would probably be along these lines:

.357 Smith snubby revolver
.45 ACP Glock 30 or 10mm Glock 29
.45/70 Marlin Guide Gun
.30.06 Ruger Model 77 22" barrel bolt action

But it is very hard for any gunny to limit it to 4. Right now I have 2 dozen.
This is the best I can do at this moment in time.

Tomorrow, maybe 4 different items! :D

Either a .38+p (Ruger KLCR) or 9mm (HK VP9, Glock 17) and a Benchmade Mini Griptillian. Also a Surefire E1B light. I use the KLCR the vast majority of the time as it's so compact & handy and my pistols are full size. I am highly interested in checking out Glock's new G43 as a higher capacity alternative to my KLCR.

.
.45ACP Kimber Ultra CDP II with 8 rounds of Federal 230 gr. HST (7 in the mag, 1 in the pipe cocked and locked) and 12 ga Wingmaster wearing a Fred Fuller Special (18" MOD-choked, tritium-inserts rifle sights barrel) stuffed with five (Wilson Combat single-shot mag extension) Fiocchi 1150 fps nine-pellet double-aught buckshot. My daily folder is an inexpensive lil' Kershaw Leek.

Kahr .380, S&W 28 in .357, S&W AR 15 5.56. Handguns on me, rifle in truck with me. Spyderco Endura, Leatherman Juice CS4

A Zero Tolerance 0350TS...and since Ferguson a year ago, the extra capacity of a SIG P228 9mm and backup 20-round SWAT mag. Colder weather occasionally calls for something in .357SIG...which I consider to be one of the best pistol rounds ever designed.

Great new data coming in. Thanks. I'll update the spreadsheet soon as possible.

Also, thanks to those who post the caliber in addition to a model number. A lot of times, I don't know what a Sigmolin XJD789 is.

I think I may edit the OP to add that request.

Well if four is going to be the magic number in this minimalist scenario then I would go with an AR15, a Maverick 88 12 gauge shotgun (with an extra barrel), a Colt Government Model .45 (along with a .22 conversion kit), and a CZ P01 9mm. (with a Kadet .22 conversion kit).

For knives I would take my Randall Model 1, my Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, my Al Mar SERE folder, and one of my Swiss Army Knives. I would feel very good about all of these choices under just about any circumstances imaginable.

At hand - custom alloy 9mm BHP, small Sebenza, 83mm Spyderco Citadel and the attached W. C. Davis fixed blade.

Closest long guns are a 20 gauge 1100 and a 300 Blackout AR in a bedroom gun cabinet.

As close as the long guns are a CZ Rami .40 and a .45 Witness "Silver Team" in a case in a dresser drawer. There are a bunch of custom knives (I'm home in the bedroom), but that's no surprise.

Chillin in my recliner with a .45 acp double stack laying on the floor next me, and a 12 gauge with 0000 buck behind the bedroom door, with 9mm on the bedroom nightstand. Several Boker & Kershaw knives on the dresser.

I am not listing the contents of my home but I have a subcompact 9mm & an inexpensive buck folder with a clip & a thumbstud on my person.

RIGHT NOW--here at the beat up old PC--I am armed with a S&W 36 j frame Ladysmith and Mod. 64. Also in reach is a Mos 500a.

As for blades, I would venture a guess owing to the fact that I have a family heirloom war trophy mixed Daisho sitting above my computer on a stand that I am likely by dumb luck the most seriously bladed member currently on THR. Not that I have any skills with either the katana or wakizashi....

The more practical blades within literal reach-- A Gerber MK 1 and my wife's Gerber Downrange Auto.

If I were out and about, I'd likley have a S & W DAO 64 .38 and for a blade a favorite CRKT M16 Carson Flipper w/ tanto point---a great EDC knife that was a gift from a friend.

10mm longslide 1911, Kershaw Junkyard Dog 2.2, and also have at hand currently a PAP M92 in 7.62x39....

Suprised no other 10mm pistols have popped up.

Busy day, but I promise to update the spreadsheet on Tuesday.

Reminder: please list your calibers, not just model numbers. Makes it easier for me. :)
