Mora Knives...What the heck is happening?

I purchased a Mora Companion (11827) a little while ago and was absolutely astonished when I received what I consider a quality knife for all of $14.

Then another Mora showed up at my door, a Mora Robust 10315. Then two more Mora Companions (12095), both black. Then a Mora 748 Sandvik with a 6" blade . Now I'm told by USPS tracking that I have a Bushcraft 12043 on the way.
Oh, and a 1500/3000 grit Japanese water stone as well?

My goodness, what just happened?
If only I had know that initial Mora Companion would be the proverbial "foot-in-the-door"... well, I would have done it anyway.

I cannot believe I ignored these knives for the past 20 years. For what they're made for, they can't be beat for the price.

One of my buddies was brandishing one of those at the house the other day.

It was plum spooky sharp.

I mean, sci-fi, monomolecular edge sharp.

Snap cutting pool noodles with it was like cutting soap suds.

Well yes, but it's not like they are something to admire or show off to your friends. I recently bought a $24 Boker Magnum Automatic. Now that was a surprise...Super sharp, good detent, centered blade. But, does it compare to one of my Protechs? Nope....

What makes that NOT be a balisong? I have always used that as a generic term in place of "butterfly knife", but am I wrong to do so?

A Swedish Mora Balasong.

The Hackman was said to have been used by our CIA & handed out as gifts to indigenous by SOG spooks during Vietnam.

I got this one then, but I kinda doubt the CIA & SOG story's.

They were sold in the PX's at the time.
On the other hand, they were cheap enough ($3.95 - $4.95 as I recall ) to hand out as gifts.

It is one hell of a folding Mora though!

If you like the Moras, go to ragweedforge.com and look at some of the "nicer" Scandinavian knives, like the Norwegian Helle knives. Great knives at very good prices, with beautiful designs. I'm particularly fond of Finnish puukkos and leukus, as well.

I paid around $20 for a couple.

Whenever somebody asks me ( ..and for some reason they do)
i advise them to buy the Companion.

Can't be beat for that price.
