Spoke with my FFL guy yesterday and he said that his sales are going more towards revolvers now regardless of caliber.

Thought that was interesting. I actually gave him a box of 357 ammo I had laying around...I found it in a house several years ago I renovated......

Again thanks guys/gals.

I love my 6" GP100. only have around 150 rounds through it, but it has impressed me greatly. very solid and a damn good lookin gun to boot.

full size 357 revolvers are mostly no bigger than a std 1911
lots of folks feel that a 4" balances best in hand
next time at gun shop put a std size 1911 on the counter alongside a S&W or Ruger 4", you will see what I mean

I just happen to like 6" k-frames and/or Ruger "Sixes" of that genre
not everybody does

Ruger Security Six with a 4" barrel is about perfect. If you can give up .357, get a S&W Model 14 or 15 with a 4" or 6" barrel.

Love my 2 1/2" 686. I can hit some surprisingly small targets at 100 yards with it. Heavy enough to help manage recoil, but still easy to conceal. Naturally a K frame is the easiest to carry. Folks love the 3" & 4" models 13/64/19/66 etc for a reason.

It's amazing how a little Mothers Mag Polish and new grip panels change the looks of these little guns.

I picked up an EAA (S&W) copy in .357/38 spl for $300 bucks. It is the most fun to shoot when we go to our open range. Even when I practice Home S/D type shooting, (10 - 12 yards) its no slouch offering only a slightly larger pattern than my Walther P99 which I might add cost double. Curiously, the pattern on the Walther is about an inch side to side and 6 inches up and down where the EAA is an inch up and down and 6 inches side to side...

Just my 2C.

My preferance is a Ruger Speed Six. It comes in 357, and is a 2/34 in barrel. Stainless Steel also. I can not think of a better CCW weapon then this weapon. It has all the horsepower you will ever need in a defensive weapon. It also serves as a dual caliber weapon. Just down load to a 38 special.

Not many reasons not to like the old 4" revolvers. Especially the old Sec. Six and the S&W Mod.14 in the 4". I guess overall my old Security Six is my favorite revolver. I'm at the local gun shop at least 3 or more times a week and when I do see one there it's almost never there for 2 days straight.

I've never regretted buying my GP100 6" SS. I personally wouldn't get anythingless than a 6" unless I was doing a lot of carrying.

I'd like to get a S&W one day, though.

+1 for the Ruger SP101 (3") I love how this gun handles! My primary carry is a Glock 19, but I just acquired the 101 and I absolutely love it!

Gp100 6" or sp101 3" if you what to carry. I have both and like them alot. Sure do like the way the rhino looks.

Choices, choices, choices!! It will probably come down to who has what at what cost now. At least I have some well recommended choices. Thanks everyone.

Ruger GP100 if you don't care about cc'ing it, SP101 if you do. Given all the bad things I read about new S&W revolvers lately, I don't see how the price differential between them and the Rugers is even close to justified.

I was wondering the same thing. Is this to hunt with at times or just a side arm for when hunting? My uncle is a hunter and got his ccw for when hunting in case he walked across public property. Then he realized how nice it was not to have to stow it when leaving from hunting and now he carries 24/7.

If it is just as a sidearm, epecially as one you might carry iwb I would 2-4" range models and a kframe, sp101, or one of the ruger six series.

If it is for hunting with the handgun that changes everything and a lframe, nframe, gp100, blackhawk, etc in a 4"+ range makes the most sense. good luck with your search!

That's right Sky.

Good revolvers from older Colts to Smith&Wessons to Rugers...

Smith J, K, L, and N frames, Ruger "Six's", SP101s and GP100s, Colt Troopers and Lawmans to the lovely Python.

If I was you I'd go to a big gun show and try out holding all of 'em! Write down the feelings for each one and maybe at the end of the show, go look for the one that feels the best in your hands. Or maybe rent some at a gun range.

Best thing I felt in my hand lately was the S&W Model 60 (five shot) with laser grips. I REALLY wanted that gun, but at roughly $600 for the gun and $200 for the grips, it was over my budget by a bunch. Oh well, maybe some day :)

It seems every fire arm I have ever purchased called my name when held...Yes I know it sounds mystic and I am not even a gun nut. Mine are for practical reasons that's why I have 6 ARs; they all talked to me about their special purposes. I should have been in sales! I like to get that dreamy look in my eyes when trying to explain why I need another weapon to my wife...sometimes it works sometimes not so well but..I am going to do the gun show thing or shop around a bit and see if one calls me sweetheart. Again thanks guys this has been a fun interesting thread for me.
