38 brass

On the very rare occasions that I actually buy pistol brass, it's usually Starline, but I've never purchased any low pressure pistol brass, since .38 Special and .45 ACP seem to last forever and can often be picked up for free off the ground.

I have purchased a good bit of .44 Magnum and 7.62x25 Tok brass. At the pressures I usually load them, I don't worry much about sooty case necks.

If that's a major factor for you, I'd suggest Remington or Federal. They generally seem to have the softest pistol brass in my experience.

I like Starline. But I will use anything. I even use the Remington brass with the crimp below the bullet. At least a crimp below the original bullet. I just reload them until they give out.

If I was buying new it would be Starline. Bought lots of brass from them in the past and it is always perfect.

If I was buying once fired (which I normally do) I would probably just buy whichever was cheapest. Never had a problem with Winchester brass. I have done extensive reloading in .38 spl using Remington wadcutter brass with no problems, but I have found two unfired rounds of UMC FMJ brass that was improperly machined and thus would not completely chamber in the gun. If you buy once fired you know it fits. ;)

Could you please elaborate?
How was it improperly machined?
What factor actually kept the cases from chambering?

Thanks.

Starline seems to be everyone's favorite -- including me.

But, the unfortunate fact is, you are unlikely to be able to find Starline, or most any other brass right now. It seems to have gone missing in the marketplace like most pistol powder and many bullets.
