I very much try to be a law abiding citizen, and I fully endorse getting the proper permits for legal carry in your areas but I have CCW for several years before I was able to become “officially” legal, as did my dad and granddad.
Do you really think it's a good idea to admit carrying illegally in an open forum and then implicate your Dad and Grandfather? Not a great way to introduce yourself to a new forum IMO. I really see no reason to mention and admit to illegal activity especially when the anti-gun crowd is always looking for something to use against us.

Welcome to the forum anyway.

One thing that might be good about that is, a person that you shoot at, weather you hit them or not is going to go into shock for a second giving you time for the "one two punch." A quick jab with a strong fallow up punch.

Thatb would work good too with a double tap.

In my .357, for grandma (My 80yo land lady) a .357 loaded with light .38spl 148g WC with that last hail Mary light Pow'R Ball 80g .357 at 1800fps if she ever made it that far.

I think the statute of limitations has probably expired, at least for dad and granddad. I did the same thing years ago. I've also driven over the speed limit. I doubt anti-gunners will think any less of me for it.

Personally I think the OP has spent too much time thinking. I just load the gun. It's really not that complicated.

Eidted to add: I just remembered I used to do the same thing back when I was younger, but it was with buckshot for deer hunting. I'd load No. 4 buck in the chamber, followed by a Number 1, followed by a OO, using the logic that my first shot would be the closest, and so on. Didn't work that way in real life. I finally settled on just loading the same load for each shot. Things were much simpler then. No more checking to make sure I had the gun loaded "right." No more need to keep track of where each size shot was in my pocket/shell vest. No need to keep three or more sizes of buckshot. Much simpler.

First of all, you may only get ONE shot. It better have the power to do the job.

Second of all, if you miss with the first light kicking shot what makes you think that within a split second of the first shot, you'll inexplicably be able to place any of your hard kicking follow-up rounds more accurately?

I'm constantly amazed by folks that want to use a gun for defense, then, even if they can control a more powerful load, they turn right around and load it with a lesser round in an attempt to only "kill the badguy a little bit."

I agree. There really doesn't seem to be a good reason to mix loads for self defense. KISS applies, on top of everything else.
