The main advantage of the leverevolution bullet is that it retains down-range velocity without threatening a chain-fire in a tubular magazine. For cartridges you expect to shoot at 100yds plus, this is useful. For a short-range defensive cartridge like the .38spl, I think it's a little goofy. Might as well go with Gold Dots or LSWCHP rather than complicating the technology for little perceivable gain.
On the other hand, if you're hot-loading them for your carbine up into traditional Elmer Keith territory, it makes some sense, as long as your revolver can safely handle the pressures.
Of course Hornady isn't offering the bullet heads loose, so it's all moot.
I think a hot combo would be a Marlin 1894C/.357 with leverevolutions on top of Lil'Gun, matched to a 4-5/8" Ruger Blackhawk to handle the same - outside of .38spl range, tho.
