I got a mold for 357/38 its a 140gr swc...

problem is, i cant find any load data for this bullet

I would like any suggestions on what to use or how to find data

btw if possible Id like to use 231 as I have a pile of it.

thanks

Brian

I couldn't find any info for a 140 grain cast LSWC, but I did find data for the RCBS 150 grain LSWC. This is from the RCBS Cast Bullet Manual number 1.

38 Special Speer case, CCI 500 primer, W-231, S&W model 14 six inch barrel:
4.5 grains = 887 fps
5.0 grains = 980 fps

357 Magnum Speer case, CCI 500 primer, W-231, Ruger Security Six 6 inch barrel:
7.4 grains = 1178 fps
7.9 grains = 1250 fps

Brian, you can use 158 data for the 140, you will have a little less pressure and a little more velocity.

I shoot mostly cast 158 grain LSWC bullets with 4.4 grains of 231 and also Speer 148 grain swaged BBWC with the same charge. No velocity data, but both loads are accurate in my guns. works for me.

I have RCBS data that shows the following 140 grain wc info out of a S&W Model 14 with a 6" barrel using 231 powder: 4.0 grains (853 fps) to 4.5 grains (951 fps).

Lyman data shows the following 141 grain (linotype) wc info out of a universal receiver and a 4" vented barrel using 231 powder: 3.0 grains (667 fps) to 4.9 grains (1001 fps).
